This policy applies to the website paintingestimator.co.nz, referred to below as “Painting Estimator NZ”, “we”, “us” or “our”. It covers information handled through the website, its calculators and email communication with us.

This statement is written with New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020 and information privacy principles in mind.

Information we collect

The information involved depends on how you use the website.

How calculator inputs are handled

Our calculators are designed to perform calculations in your browser. We do not ask for your name, email address, property address or account details in order to produce an estimate, and we do not intentionally save calculator values as a named customer quote.

Analytics technologies operating on calculator pages may record that a visitor interacted with a page element, along with technical and usage information described below. This is separate from us deliberately storing a calculator result as a personal record.

Information collected when you email us

If you contact us, providing personal information is voluntary. We use it to read and respond to your enquiry, investigate a website issue, improve a calculator or keep an appropriate record of the communication. If you do not provide a working email address, we may be unable to reply.

Server and security logs

Our website hosting, caching, content-delivery and security services may automatically process request information such as an IP address, date and time, requested URL, user agent, referrer and error or security data. This information may be needed to deliver the site, diagnose faults, prevent abuse and protect the website.

How we use information

We may use information collected through the website to:

• Provide and operate the calculators and website.
• Measure traffic and understand how pages and tools are used.
• Find broken features, confusing steps, errors or performance problems.
• Improve calculator usability, content and website navigation.

We do not currently use information submitted by email to place visitors on an unrelated marketing list.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files or identifiers stored by your browser. They can help a website function, distinguish one browser from another, connect activity across a session and produce aggregated usage reports.

You can block or delete cookies using your browser settings. You can also use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics cookies may reduce the information available to us and may affect some site preferences, but the core calculators are not intended to require an account.

Who may receive or process information

We do not sell or rent personal information. Information may be processed or disclosed only where reasonably necessary for purposes described in this policy, including to:

• Website hosting, caching, content-delivery, security and technical service providers.
• Google in connection with Google Analytics.
• Microsoft in connection with Microsoft Clarity.
• Professional advisers or technical specialists where needed to investigate an issue or obtain advice.
• Government agencies, regulators, courts or other parties where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
• A person or organisation involved in protecting the website, our users or others from fraud, abuse, security threats or unlawful activity, where disclosure is reasonably necessary and lawful.

Processing outside New Zealand

Some providers we use are international companies or operate infrastructure outside New Zealand. As a result, technical, analytics or communication information may be processed or stored overseas, including in countries with privacy rules different from New Zealand’s.

Where the Privacy Act 2020 applies, we remain responsible for handling personal information in accordance with our obligations. You can read the Privacy Commissioner’s explanation of Principle 12 and overseas disclosures.

Storage, security and retention

We take reasonable steps appropriate to a small informational website to protect information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access or disclosure. These steps may include controlled access, reputable service providers, software updates, backups and website security measures.

No website, email system or internet transmission is completely secure. You should avoid sending information that is not needed for your enquiry.

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to maintain appropriate business or security records, or to meet legal obligations. Retention of analytics data and provider-held logs also depends on the settings, systems and policies of the relevant provider.

When personal information is no longer required, we may delete it, anonymise it or allow it to be removed through routine system and backup cycles.

Your privacy rights and choices

Under New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020, you may ask whether we hold personal information about you, request access to that information, and ask us to correct it if you believe it is wrong.

To make a request, email contact@paintingestimator.co.nz and provide enough detail for us to identify the relevant information. We may need to verify your identity before releasing or changing personal information.

You can also:

• Choose not to send us an email.
• Avoid entering personal information into calculator fields.
• Block or delete cookies through your browser.
• Use available browser privacy controls or analytics opt-out tools.

If you believe your privacy concern has not been resolved, you can learn about your rights or make a complaint through the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Children’s information

The website provides general painting cost tools and is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information that should be removed, please contact us and provide enough information to locate the communication.

Links to other websites

Our guides may link to external websites for technical, consumer or product information. Those websites operate under their own privacy statements and terms. We are not responsible for how an external website collects or uses information after you leave Painting Estimator NZ.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when website features, analytics services, providers or legal requirements change. The latest version will be published on this page with an updated date. Material changes may also be highlighted on the website where appropriate.
